Photo a Day Challenge - Day 87 Trash (Rubbish)

In Sydney, rubbish collection is done in the wee hours of the morning, by a truck, and the whole process is semi-automated. Now, in Turkey, Tire, it is collected by a trailer drawn by a tractor! It was quite quirky really, but in the small village, its all needed!!

Photo a Day Challenge - Day 85 Key

The 'key' to a good day, is, by the photo below, ensuring that your moped is fully charged... Or, whilst its under a charging cycle, have a quick 40 winks, which is what this lady is doing!!

Photo a Day Challenge - Day 83 An Animal

Again, in Berlin's Tierpark Zoo, we had to visit the Elephant display... They were stunningly close, nice sunny day and were having a ball swimming and bathing in the water. Here they are walking out to enjoy a dirt bath next, now that they're wet!!

Photo a Day Challenge - Day 81 Kitchen Sink

When we moved from Guildford, we literally packed everything, well maybe not everything, but it seemed as though it was everything INCLUDING the kitchen sink!! But, alas, that had to stay as it was needed by the new residents...

Photo a Day Challenge - Day 79 Before/After

We purchased our house back in 2005, and moved then moved into it in the June. This is what it looked like out on the back veranda...

back

One of the first things to be done, was L and her dad repaired some of the broken glass in the windows, which was done in the middle of winter when I was overseas I might add! Then it was a matter of a quick lick of paint, as seen in this picture.

House rear AFTER

Now, after nearly 10 years, this is how the back veranda looks, with some cast iron columns, cedar fluted posts and a bit of furniture (currently inside whilst Bronty is a puppy)

Photo a Day Challenge - Day 78 Funny

This is the start of a 'catch-up of OVER a month, so my apologies for not keeping up due to being busy and a little bit of "what do I post"...

BUT, in 2010 when I was in Germany, I caught up with (for the very first time, Maribeth who was also in Germany (Berlin)! We went to the Tierpark Zoo for the day, and we had a ball. This photo, was simply 'Funny'!!

Photo a Day Challenge - Day 77 A Corner of your Home

This phot, is quite literally, a corner of the house! It is the join from where the tuckpointing, facade, meets the repoint, side, of the house. I had this redone in January 2011, and I am so happy with how it turned out! It not only made it look better, but it also corrected any cracks that may have been there!

Photo a Day Challenge - Day 76 Green

Green, as in colour or green as in Sustainable?? I'll opt for the later... Last year, we went to SITA at Kemps Creek. It is a waste processing facility that we use at work. We were shown the way in waste, our waste, is processed and managed.

In 2009, I had two interviews for different positions in Doha. On the second trip, I also had a trip out into the desert and down to the Gulf coast. Now, here is my driver, Basim, who didn't take off his sunnies!!!

Photo a Day Challenge - Day 74 Car

Ok, I'm not particularly happy with this photo, but, Im not precious and I will post it anyway... I was out in the Newnes State Forrest, and I wanted to get down to the 'Lost City'. Unfortunately, for me, there was a bog hole that I got stuck in... Oh well, I got towed out and came home instead!

photo a Day Challenge - Day 73 Clouds

In this shot, we had not long left Berlin's Tegel airport, shot through the clouds, and started tracking towards Helsinki's Vataa airport. I like flying, above the clouds or countryside gives you time to take it all in, ponder whats going on, and just enjoying the scenery below... Ahhh the bliss...

Photo a Day Challenge - Day 72 Sign

This is, although not technically, a sign... But, its painted onto the very edge of the platform at Woolooware railway station in Sydney. Its just a reminder that, there can be a gap between the train and the platform...

Photo a Day Challenge - Day 71 Fork

Its often said that at times, you come to a 'fork' in the road ahead of you... That came to me today, but not in a way you may think! I was taken out this afternoon, with a hood over my head, to an 'unknown' destination... I had mentioned to one of my 'captors' a few weeks prior, that I have a pretty good understanding of the roads of Sydney, and that a blindfold would be pointless (trying not to spoil the surprise, yet trying to keep them thinking of alternatives)!

When we arrived, I had sort of guessed where we were as soon as I sensed we were under a tunnel. And, I was correct, as we were at Eastern Creek Raceway! I was going on a 'hot lap' in a V8 super car!!! OMG, I was SO excited!!! After completing the paperwork (Indemnity) I had to get a race suit, and then onto a photo in front of a car, before a briefing.

Photo Call
Then it was down into pitt lane, where we were given our car number - 42 was my car... A blue Holden Commodore, that looked as though it was the newest in the fleet of race cars! Here are some pics...

Photo a Day Challenge - Day 70 Someone You Spoke To

What a day... Luch, at La Mono, was great and we had a lovely lunch. Afterwards, we came back home for cake, which C, 'the next sister down' to L, baked the cake. And WHAT a cake it was! Here is Master J helping me blow out the candles...

Blowing out the candles...

When it came to time to leave, Master J, 2yo, decided he wanted to stay "just 4 more minutes' he was saying as he scampered off in the other direction! So I ran after him and picked him up, and on the way to the car, we had a little chat... Funny J!

Ok, whilst this subject may not be loud, I suspect that some looking at it will scream LOUD!!

Whilst today is my birthday, I was kept busy running to and fro to buntings, thanks to Miss Bronty on not one, but two accounts! The first was to replace the chords on the cafe blinds on the back patio. This was easily done, but when I got home and saw her sitting at the back door with her head through the screen, it was time to go back and get some new screen...

Oh Bronty...

Photo a Day Challenge - Day 68 Red

We have a lot of children's books, some are new, like this one, and a lot are old - three sets of the Noddy Book series (all hard covers). Some we got mainly for the pictures, and the illustrations in this book are simply stunning!

Red Bus

Little Cat and the Big Red Bus (Jane Godwin and Ann Walker) is a fascinating little book, and as I said, the illustrations are wonderful.

Country children often have long bus rides to get to school and Little Cat is one of those children, who along with her sister go up and down and around, stopping and starting twice a day. One day Little Cat’s sister is ill and she has to make the journey alone, but oh no, she is tired and sleepy on her way home and misses her stop. Anna Walker has illustrated this rhythmic, gentle book with charming simplicity and it is in the endpapers we discover more about Little Cat’s life and her interests.

In other news, the Queen Mary 2 sailed out from Sydney this evening, and I didn't/couldn't get a shot of it passing the Opera House as it was simply way to dark! BUT, before it set sail, I got this shot of the Opera House, city skyline, and the QM2 is just off on the right hand side...
