Photo a Day Challenge - Day 68 Red

We have a lot of children's books, some are new, like this one, and a lot are old - three sets of the Noddy Book series (all hard covers). Some we got mainly for the pictures, and the illustrations in this book are simply stunning!

Red Bus

Little Cat and the Big Red Bus (Jane Godwin and Ann Walker) is a fascinating little book, and as I said, the illustrations are wonderful.

Country children often have long bus rides to get to school and Little Cat is one of those children, who along with her sister go up and down and around, stopping and starting twice a day. One day Little Cat’s sister is ill and she has to make the journey alone, but oh no, she is tired and sleepy on her way home and misses her stop. Anna Walker has illustrated this rhythmic, gentle book with charming simplicity and it is in the endpapers we discover more about Little Cat’s life and her interests.

In other news, the Queen Mary 2 sailed out from Sydney this evening, and I didn't/couldn't get a shot of it passing the Opera House as it was simply way to dark! BUT, before it set sail, I got this shot of the Opera House, city skyline, and the QM2 is just off on the right hand side...

Photo a Day Challenge - Day 67 Window

We had, in the lounge room, an old box styled air-conditioner unit. It was a noisy heap of rubbish, barely cooled and not at ALL sustainable on both the environment OR the hip pocket. So, we planned to get rid of it. L, the eBay queen, searched and found an old window that would be a suitable replacement... Trouble was, we had to drive to Melbourne to collect it! BUT, this was ok anyway, as we were going to Melbourne in a week or two (at the time) so it was all good!

A few months afterwards, the next door neighbour had a builder in, and we asked him if he could install it for us, and as they say in the classics, the rest is history!!

Photo a Day Challenge - Day 66 Something You Wore

OK, this was already blogged about, back in May 2005! But, it was funny then, as it is now!! I just had to share it again - L was a funny thing!! Now, whilst I am not sure what happened to the photo in the original post, it is here though...

I still can NOT believe she went to work wearing odd shoes!!!

Photo a Day Challenge - Day 65 5PM

TBH, I didn't and don't have anything for this one, so I will put up a random pic, but the post time, is 5pm!

A little 'back story' about this photo... On Sunday, I went on a steam train trip to Thirlmere. It was a great day, I've not been to Thirlmere in years, and a LOT has changed! The day was part of a steam festival, and the train was long, and full!

photo a Day Challenge - Day 64 A Smile

I had to look through the archives a little to see if there was a photo of me, with a smile. But, as I am generally behind the camera, there wasn't any to choose from! So I looked back through, and I found one of Rosie, with big rosy red cheeks with a great smile!

Photo a Day Challenge - Day 63 Bedside

You can just seen in this photo, the bedside tables. These are made from recycled timbers, and we got them some years ago. They're actually quiet heavy as well, as they're hardwood!

There is plenty of room in them, I have mainly undies and so forth, whilst on L's side (still with her things untouched) is some scarf's, books etc...

Photo a Day Challenge - Day 62 Your Neighbourhood

For the most part, my neighbourhood is pretty good... Yeah sure, there are some 'idiots' about the place, we all have them, but it is a really good suburb in general! It is in almost the geographical centre of Sydney, and nearby Parramatta is seen as the centre of Sydney anyway! It is a multicultural municipality, largely Lebanese I would say, but a lot of traditional Heritage listed homes.

Our house, although built in 1927, would be nearly one of the older homes in the immediate area, and certainly in my street!

Now, the 'tough' part of the neighbourhood, and again we all have these, is that we all have some inconsiderate people. Here is a classic example...

Parked In

BUT, the funny thing is was that I had my motorbike, the car behind mine was blocking THEIR driveway, and the car in front of my car, was blocking the neighbours driveway!!! Fools!

Photo a Day Challenge - Day 61 Fruit

In 2007, we went to the UN Climate Change Conference in Nusa Dua, Bali. As part of theta, we had Army, Police, a driver and a tour guide to look after us. On day, we went on a tour to the north, past Kerobokan jail, up to Bali Botanic Gardens, Kintamani volcano, terraced rice paddies and to the Floating Temple in Kertha Gosa. But, along the way, we stopped at a roadside fruit stall, and the fruit looked simply amazing...

Photo a Day Challenge - Day 60 Up

PaD March

In 2010, when I went to Europe for the 2nd ETS in France, I also visited Florence and Rome. I also had the opportunity to go UP to the top of the Duomo. For the most part, it was pretty narrow, dark and a little steep, but the last third was very steep. The view from the top though, overlooking Florence, was WELL worth the pain!

Santa Croce Florence

Likewise, in Rome, the trip UP to the top of St Peters was equally (if not more) difficult! Again, and apart from the rain, the view was magnificent, and one that I will remember for a very long time... I will have to do it again, but every time I've been to Rome, 3 times now, its bloody well rained!!!

Photo a Day Challenge - Day 59 Something You're Listening Too

Today was another trip to the Dentist for the second, of three, root canal treatments. It all started a week and a bit ago, a pain in the tooth, a lack of sleep and so on, and on that Monday, TWO trips to the Dentist. This is, in itself a miracle given I had an awful experience when I was growing up... But, here is a pic of the two metal probes in the root canal, measuring the depth and that they have to be the same...

Root Canal

But, if reference to something I am listening to, well at the dentist, I had my iPhone with my music library playing, whilst on gas, and the song I really like at the moment is "We Are Young" by FUN and featuring Janelle Monae.
