Today, 17th December, 2000 we were married. Today, would be our 12th wedding anniversary...

------Today, you would be 43... You are forever missed...
This weeks 'Thematic Photographic' (check out Carmi's post) is all about the shades... My take of this, is looking at the cause of the 'shade' and that is a cloud... Carmi explains much better than I the technical difficulties about shooting a shade, but here we can see the Vietnamese sun, glaring through and piercing the clouds to form brilliant sunrays. The adverse effect of this, is of course, that there will also be shades cast onto the earth underneath...
So make sure you go and visit, come back through the week, and see if I post another shade, and I promise, there wont be 50 greys either!!

------Excellence in the Environment Awards 2012
Yesterday, was the annual Excellence in the Environment Awards, and the third annual award presented for Individual Excellence in Sustainability - which is dedicated to Louise after she died in 2009. Both M & J were there as well, as guests of the NSW LGSA.
The morning had con-current sessions of presentations on all things environmental, water, waste, energy, procurement even biodiversity! There is a lot of great work going on in Sustainability at a Local Government level, we should all be encouraged by what our LGA is doing. A full list of the categories can be found HERE, whilst the winners are HERE.
When it came time for the actual presentation of the awards, and I sat on the panel for the Individual category, the was many dignatries, The Minister for the Environment, (and acting Minister for Local Government), The Hon. Robyn Parker, President of the Local Government Association of NSW Cr Keith Rhoades AFSM & the Vice President Shires Association Cr Maria Woods (plus all of the sponsors as well). Both M&J, as was I, was humbeled to hear the Minister, and both the President of the Local Government and the Vice President of the Shires Associations, speak so warmly and fondly of Louise, and the work she had done in the field of Sustainability. Work, that is still being looked upon as groundbreaking, still today.
The winner, a passionate young man from Byron, was also asked to give an acceptance speech, and whilst he thanked all of the people he works with, both within Council but more so the community of Byron Bay, he went on to acknowledge Louise's parents, and myself, and with his brief research into the work Louise had accomplished, he has taken some new initivies onboard to adapt to Byron.
After the Awards were done and dusted, we were then welcomed to have lunch (which was a great offering of foods), before heading out for the afternoon.
By this stage, it was late, I was tired, and I was drained, but as a mate of mine was leaving for work in Saudia Arabia, I wanted to get out to the airport to see his plane off. I had only just made it with around 20 minutes or so to spare!

------Today, 17th November, was L's due date for the twins. today, had they have been delivered on the due date, the twins would be three! I am currently in Vietnam, and away from leave a flower or two at L's grave... Instead, I shall try and find a single flower (each) and carry them with me tomorrow...
I will do some 'catch-up' blogs tomorrow night...

------Someone that inspires me, as in present form, or in the past tense? Lets do both, shall we?
In the 'past tense, its kind of a no brainer as the single most important person, who not only inspired me, but also had confidence in me to do the things I wanted to do... That is, L...
Now in the 'present', this is a little more difficult, as there are many who inspire me, drive me to try new things and to achieve a lot more than I thought I ever could. Also, not just that, but in a lot of ways, maturity beyond their years as well... BUT, they know who they are and exactly WHAT they mean to me, as I have told them of this...

------Something that makes me sad, is knowing that the twin would've recently had thier 2nd birthday...

------There was no denying it, L loved her crafty toys... All manner of toys were sought after from local 'crafters to international crafters, there was at times, no stopping her!
Here are some samples of the crafty toys we collected along the way...

OK, this was already blogged about, back in May 2005! But, it was funny then, as it is now!! I just had to share it again - L was a funny thing!! Now, whilst I am not sure what happened to the photo in the original post, it is here though...
I still can NOT believe she went to work wearing odd shoes!!!

------Today, is just any other day really, nothing in particular happened, except I did get a Valentines Day message late this afternoon!!
BUT, my 'heart' still pains for Louise, not necessarily any more today over any other day, but just because I do... In this photo of her and Rosie, if my memory is correct, it was either JUST after this, or she was putting on a brave face, but her heart was broken (yet again) as she had another miscarriage that afternoon. We left the birthday party, largely with no-one knowing I think, and the following day, she had a D&C...
So whilst not technically a 'heart' photo, its a heartfelt photo...

------Today, was a day of mixed emotions... It was the 2011, NSW Local Government & Shires Associations Excellence in Environment Awards...
I sit on an award category for L's Memory for individual achievements... The nominee's for this year's award were all very worthy of the award. However, when I read through them all, there was for me, a clear winner and truly represented L. And, this year, the winner did not know she was even nominated let alone the winner!!! When her named was called out, there was a small scream of absolute astonishment of winning!! By the time she came to the podium for the award to be presented by myself and the Minister for the Environment, she actually had tears... It was a wonderful thing to be part of.
After the awards presentation, we were invited to lunch, which had a selection of two hot mains, a Lamb dumpling casserole, and a chicken & choritzo pilaf thing which was AMAZING! To the sides, cuss cuss, salads, potato salad and so on. There was also a cheese and fruit platter. The view for lunch over looked the wonderful sights of Circular Quay, Opera House and the Harbour Bridge.
By the end of the day, and it was a hot day, (and after copious amounts of water), I got the opportunity to watch the Adel concert from the Royal Albert Hall (I purposely didn't put a certain word in-between Albert and Hall as she had worded it!). it was a wonderful concert, and I actually think she is pretty true vocally in live, as she is on the recorded media. She is a wonderful performer, both in her singing and in her talking to her audience.
Keeping myself busy, and tomorrow is a busy day ahead looking at a set of French Doors a friend may be purchasing for access to his newly built decking. But, that's for another day!
